Celebrating Pioneer Day
 by Connie Sorensen, staff writer
Pioneer Day is a very personal celebration for millions of Latter Day Saint people. It is a day for us to honor the nearly 70,000 early members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints that made the 1300 mile trek from Illinois to the Salt Lake Valley. http://www.mormonchic.com/gospel/pioneer_day.asp

Pioneers                                                                                                                            (This is a good resources talks about the early pioneers who settled America.)                                                                                                                Many years ago people in the United States traveled to the new frontiers.  Although in the 1700s the frontier was the Appalachian Mountains, later with westward expansion the frontier moved to the territories beyond the Mississippi River.  Our web page will provide information about the pioneers who traveled not only to Oregon on the Oregon Trail and the Natchez Trace to Texas but all early American Pioneers.  We have discovered that all pioneers had many of the same experiences.  This page will tell the story of the pioneers and their adventures on the trail to their new lives on the frontiers of North America. http://library.thinkquest.org/6400/default.htm

Summer Journal Pages

Draw and Journal Pages Printable                                                                     Our children have always love the drawing and writing journals that we pick up every year. The only thing that’s hard is having them inside a journal book and not as loose leaf paper. There are many times that I like to include them in a lapbook we are working on or as part of another project we make. http://www.homeschoolcreations.net/2012/06/draw-and-journal-pages-printable/

Summer Memory Book                                                                                          This is a great writing activity to do with your children over the summer.  Each week we will add more pages.  Choose which are best for your children and print.  At the end of the summer you will have a complete memory book ready to bind!                                          http://www.thecurriculumcorner.com/2012/05/19/summer-memory-book/#comment-22

When I pay my tithing, Heavenly Father will bless me: 2nd Week Sharing Time Idea for June 2012                                                                                                       Sharing Time Idea from the 2012 Primary Outline IDENTIFY THE DOCTRINE AND ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING(seeing a demonstration): Explain that tithing is giving one-tenth of the money you earn to the Lord through His Church.  Show the children 10 coins.  Ask them how many of the coins should be used to pay tithing.  Show a tithing envelope and a donation slip, and explain that we pay tithing by filling out the donation slip, putting it in the envelope with our tithing, and giving it to the bishop or one of his counselors.                                                                             http://littleldsideas.blogspot.com/
