Children’s Scavenger Hunt {A Free Printable}

Here’s another fun idea I created earlier this summer for my little ones to help
us (or me) enjoy all the laps around the block we take every single day.  Don’t
get me wrong, I love walking the block but sometimes, just
sometimes
, it can get a little bang my head against the wall, ya feeling me?
One kid wants to go left, the other is screaming to go right and the baby is
trying her hardest to Houdini it out of her stroller straps. http://smashedpeasandcarrots.blogspot.com/2011/06/childrens-scavenger-hunt-free-printable.html

My I Can Do Book

Like all parents, I want my daughter to have confidence in herself. I want her
to go through life with the attitude that anything is possible and that she can
do anything! Unfortunately I have already seen the beginnings of frustration
when my Boo realizes that there are things that she can’t do (yet!). Dr. Michele
Borba- an author, parenting expert, and educator- has outlined eight
tips
 to cultivate that can-do attitude in our children. Two of those tips-
Celebrate the special achievements and efforts and Accentuate the
positive
 tie in directly to that confident attitude I want my three year old
to develop…. as well as our latest Mommy & Me made book: My I Can Do Book!
And the book is shaped like a can! :) (read more)                                                     http://ht.ly/5Maxi

Pioneer Songs

Pioneer Choosing Activity

Since it was Pioneer Day this week, I decided to have the children sing pioneer songs for music time. I started out with a choosing activity. I used the crickets and seagull idea from Sugar Doodle. I covered the outside of a metal bowl with green tissue paper to make it look like a green hill. I printed off some crickets and a seagull from clip art on Microsoft Word.  I used double sided tape and taped a strong magnet to the back of each cricket. I also wrote the name of a pioneer song on the back of each cricket. I put the crickets on the bowl. I taped one end of a string to the back of the seagull. I taped the other end to a dowel rod. On the back of the seagull’s beak I attached a paper clip.  (Read more)http://teachldschildren.com/?p=137

Cricket & Seagull: Celebrating Pioneer Day with songs of the Mormons from the Library of Congress

Happy pioneer day! Music has been a part of the Mormon tradition from the very beginning. Whether it was hymns or folk songs, it seems there was music created to mark most important occasions. For instance, we have the dedication of the Kirtland, Ohio, Temple in 1836 to thank for the hymn “The Spirit of God” appearing in our hymnals today.The wagon company of 1847 was hardly under way before William Clayton came up with his new version of “All is Well” which we know as “Come, Come Ye Saints.” And it was just over 150 years ago when the first of many handcart companies set out for the Rocky Mountains, pushing and pulling their way across a continent to the tune of “The Handcart Song.” And then there were the humorous songs about the railroad and the bad influence it was bound to bring to the territory. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705387978/Cricket–Seagull-Celebrating-Pioneer-Day-with-songs-of-the-Mormons-from-the-Library-of-Congress.html

Pioneer Day 2011

When I think of the Pioneers, I think of this hymn.

Come, come, ye Saints, no toil or labor fear;
But with joy wend your way.
Though hard to you this journey may appear,
Grace shall be as your day.
‘Tis better far for us to strive
Our useless cares from us to drive;
Do this and joy your hearts will swell —
All is well! All is well!                                                                                                                      (read more)                                                       http://nicksentrys.wordpress.com/2011/07/25/pioneer-day-2011/
