Got a Business? Bring the Kids

Do you remember your childhood summer job? I do. I worked in my family business—a funeral home. From the time I was five, my parents found ways for me to “help out.” My first responsibility was to collect broken flowers from funeral sprays so my mother could easily vacuum. It might sound morbid—but it was a way for my parents to spend time with me, instead of dropping me off with a baby sitter. And I learned some invaluable
lessons about work ethic along the way.                                                                        http://ht.ly/5AFdr

Many miracles

I take a lot of things for granted. Take the sun, for instance. It’s 93 million miles away. Ninety-three million miles. Let’s say you hop in a car and start driving towards the sun at 60 mph (okay, we’ll make it a spacecar) — it’d take you 177 years to get there. And that’s if there aren’t any red lights along the way.                       http://bencrowder.net/blog/2011/07/many-miracles

Roadtrip to the Sun

Ben Crowder admits that he takes a lot of things for granted. “Take the sun, for instance. It’s 93 million miles away. Ninety-three million miles. Let’s say you hop in a car and start driving towards the sun at 60 mph (okay, we’ll make it a spacecar) — it’d take you 177 years to get there. And that’s if there aren’t any red lights along the way. “So the sun is far, but the thing that blows my mind is this: it’  so bright to us here on earth that if we look straight at it, it temporarily blinds us. And it’s hot. You can burn ants with it (and a magnifying glass). That’s crazy. I mean, I understand the physics of it (the basics, anyway), but isn’t it bonkers that the whole thing actually works? Not to mention its huge role in life on earth and all of that.”

In his post, Many Miracles, Ben pauses to marvel at how we are surrounded by evidence of a Loving God.  Ben is a bookworm, writer, designer, illustrator, typographer, and coder. He is senior web designer at the BYU Harold B. Lee Library. He love books and dead languages and Vim. He’s married and has a baby girl. http://mormondaddyblogs.com/2011/07/roadtrip-to-the-sun/

Dad U./ Future dads they’re building

That may be me in the picture, learning with my little brother the fine art of hammering stuff, though it’s the kind of scene that plays itself out every day all across the world: a dad patiently coaching his boys when clearly it would be easier to do the thing himself. But such dads aren’t as interested in the things they’re building as much as the future dads they’re building.                                                                  http://mormondaddyblogs.com/2011/06/dad-u/

Mormon Daddy Blogs . com

Check out this cool website.

Hello. My name is Dennis A (“Hi, Dennis”), and I am a closet reader of Mormon mommy blogs. Our female counterparts are working it out and my hat is off to them. They’re not trying to change the world. They’re just fighting the good fight in an honest, win some/lose some kind of way. Which is refreshing. And inspiring. And, in so doing, in their own way, they are changing the world. A post at a time.                                                                            We’ve admired you Mormon mommies for taking the lead in the blogosphere. We may not be as plentiful, prolific or pretty, but we Mormon daddies are out there, too. We’re just a little harder to find, is all. MormonDaddyBlogs.com is dedicated to finding and encouraging the fledgling blogging efforts of Mormon dads http://mormondaddyblogs.com/

Celebrating Pioneer Day

Pioneer Day is a very personal celebration for millions of Latter Day Saint people. It
is a day for us to honor the nearly 70,000 early members of the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints that made the 1300 mile trek from Illinois to the
Salt Lake Valley.                                                    http://www.mormonchic.com/gospel/pioneer_day.asp

 LDS Pioneer  Video 5:56

The pioneers first made it to Salt Lake City on July 24, 1847…in wagons. The handcart companies don’t come along for years, almost 10 years before they came along. 10 handcart companies traveled to Salt Lake City from 1856 to 1860. And that’s where Willie and Martin enter the picture.                                                                                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2d5ymkcxWEU&feature=player_embedded#at=16

Unique pioneers: Hispanic members adopt LDS culture

Ever since my mission to Argentina in the 1970s, I have been amazed at the faith, vision and perseverance of the Hispanic Saints. Working with the Spanish-speaking Saints in northern San Diego County, however, has taken that respect to a whole new level.
Three years ago, the branch in which I serve was invited to participate with the Vista 4th Ward’s (also a Spanish-language unit) first Pioneer Day celebration. While not exactly sure what a Pioneer Day event would be like in Spanish, it did sound like fun.

O Pioneers!

Ideas for Pioneer Day                                                                                                           Pioneer Day, July 24, commemorates the arrival of the founding Mormon pioneers into what would become Utah.  Though it is a state holiday in Utah, Pioneer Day is recognized by Church members around the globe, sometimes in the form of Stake celebrations or Sacrament meeting talks given around the 24th. Because the day falls on Saturday this year, here are some ideas for making the day a memorable one for your family. http://ldsliving.com/story/3810-o-pioneers
